You asked for more picture book programming, and we're answering! SCBWI-Illinois' Hyde Park/South Side of Chicago Network invites you to a Picture Book Bacchanal! Join Chicago-area picture book authors and illustrators for a discussion about craft, cracking the publishing forcefield, finding an agent, and all the ins-and-outs of writing and illustrating fiction and nonfiction picture books!

WHEN: 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, December 6
WHERE: 57th Street Books, 1301 E 57th Street in Hyde Park
WHO: Five Chicago-area authors and illustrators; local author Kate Hannigan will lead the discussion.

About the authors: 

Betsy Bird- THE GREAT SANTA STAKEOUT - is a librarian, blogger, podcaster, critic, and author.Lori Degman – LIKE A GIRL and JUST READ is an award-winning picture book author who writes in rhyme, most of the time - but not always!

Patricia Toht (PICK A PUMPKIN) is a school library associate, poet, and author of three other picture books - ALL ABOARD THE LONDON BUS, PICK A PINE TREE, and DRESS LIKE A GIRL.

Junli Song - CHERRY MOON - completed her MA in children's book illustration at the Cambridge School of Art in 2018.  CHERRY MOON is her first book.

Elizabeth Brown - DANCING THROUGH FIELDS OF COLOR: THE STORY OF HELEN FRANKENTHALER.  DANCING is a Junior Library Guild Selection for 2019; Elizabeth has several other forthcoming picture books.

 

Claudia Guadalupe Martinez – JUST A BEAN – moved to Chicago to become one of the city’s youngest non-profit executives before completing her first book, THE SMELL OF OLD LADY PERFUME.
