Event Presenter/Author:
Matthew Rohrer

"You should read The Others. It'll do things to you."––John Maher, Publishers Weekly, Staff Pick

"Reading this book is like opening a door to a room and then opening a door within that room to another room and then opening a door within that room to another room and then—you get the point. It’s also: funny, mind-altering, occasionally spooky, and a conceptually brilliant reminder that our lives are filled with stories every single day."––Allie Wuest, Catapult

Matthew Rohrer will discuss The Others. He will be joined by Todd Hasak-Lowy. A Q&A and signing will follow the discussion.

About the book: A gripping, eerie, and hilarious novel-in-verse. In a Russian-doll of fictional episodes, we follow an entry-level publishing assistant over the course of a day as he encounters ghost stories, science fiction adventures, Victorian hashish eating, and robot bigfoots. Rohrer mesmerizes with wildly imaginative tales and resonant verse in this compelling love letter to storytelling.

About the author: Matthew Rohrer is the author of nine books of poems, most recently The Others, winner of the Believer Book Award for 2017. He was a co-founder of Fence Magazine and has had poems published widely in anthologies. He teaches at NYU and lives in Brooklyn.

About the interlocutor: Todd Hasak-Lowy is the author of the novel Captives, the short story collection The Task of this Translator, and several fiction and non-fiction books for children and young adults. He lives in Evanston and teaches at the Art Institute of Chicago.
