About the book: A nonbinary refugee doctor encounters a magical plague in their new home and must use their forbidden magic to find the culprit—before the government cracks down on all the migrants in the city. This novella introduces a queernormative Persian-inspired world, the first written by a Persian author for adult audiences.

About the author: A UChicago graduate, former neuroscientist, and Persian-Chicagoan, Naseem Jamnia (they/them) is the author of The Bruising of Qilwa (Tachyon Publications). Their work has appeared in The Washington Post, The Rumpus, Cosmopolitan, The Writer's Chronicle, and other venues. They've received fellowships from Bitch Media, Lambda Literary, and Otherwise, and were named the inaugural Samuel R. Delany fellow. After graduating with an MFA in fiction from the University of Nevada, Naseem stayed in Reno with their husband, dog, and two cats. About the Interlocutor: August Clarke is here and queer, etc. They have been published in PRISM international, Portland Review, and Eidolon. They were a 2019 Lambda Literary Fellow in Young Adult Fiction and a Locus Award, Dragon Award, and Pushcart nominee. They researched queerness, labor, and monstrosity at the University of Chicago. The Scratch Daughters is the second book in their indie-bestselling series, The Scapegracers, where they write as H. A. Clarke.
