About Rachel DeWoskin: Rachel DeWoskin is the award-winning author of five novels and the memoir Foreign Babes in Beijing, as well as a recent poetry collection, Two Menus. DeWoskin is an Associate Professor of Practice in the Arts at UChicago and an affiliated faculty member in Jewish and East Asian Studies.

About Zayd Dorhn: Zayd Dorhn is a playwright and screenwriter whose plays have been produced off-Broadway, around the country, and internationally in Brazil, Germany, Panama, Sweden, and China. He has developed films and television series for HBO, Showtime, Netflix, eOne, and Sundance TV. He is currently Professor and Chair of the Radio/TV/Film Department and co-Director of the MFA in Writing for the Screen + Stage at Northwestern University.

About the discussants:

Özge Samanci is an associate professor in Northwestern University’s School of Communication. Her autobiographical graphic novel Dare to Disappoint (Farrar Straus Giroux, 2015) received international press attention and was positively reviewed in The New York Times, The Guardian, and Slate along with many other media outlets.

Mitchell S. Jackson’s debut novel The Residue Years received wide critical praise. His nonfiction book Survival Math: Notes on an All-American Family was published in the spring of 2019 and named a best book of the year by fifteen publications, including NPR, Time Magazine, The Paris Review, The Root, Kirkus Reviews, and Buzzfeed. Jackson is a columnist for Esquire Magazine and teaches in the Creative Writing Program at the University of Chicago.

Srikanth Reddy’s latest book of poetry is Underworld Lit (Wave 2020). The recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Creative Capital Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts, he is currently Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of Chicago.

Thomas Bradshaw has had thirteen plays produced in New York City at The New Group, The Flea, Performance Space 122, and The Whitney Museum, among others. His plays have also been produced at regional theaters across the country, as well as in London and Germany.  A compilation of his work Intimacy and Other Plays was recently published by TCG. Mr. Bradshaw is a Professor at Northwestern University.

Suzanne Buffam is the author of three collections of poetry, most recently A Pillow Book (Canarium Books). Her other books are The Irrationalist (Canarium Books) and Past Imperfect (House of Anansi). She is an Associate Professor of Practice in the Arts at the University of Chicago.
