This panel discussion between three literary editors will focus on the art of the book review. Among them, Donna, Laurie, and Ann have years of experience writing and editing books coverage in newspapers, in magazines, in longform, in short form, for the trade, and more. Where do they think book reviewing might be headed in a digital age?
About Donna Seaman: Donna Seaman is the Editor for Adult Books at Booklist, a member of the Content Leadership Team for the American Writers Museum, and a recipient of the Louis Shore Award for excellence in book reviewing, the James Friend Memorial Award for Literary Criticism and the Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award. Seaman has written for the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, and other publications. She is the author of Identity Unknown: Rediscovering Seven American Women Artists. Seaman lives in Chicago.
About Laurie Hertzel: Laurie Hertzel is a Senior Editor at the Star Tribune. Previously, she was a writer and editor at Minnesota Monthly magazine and at the Duluth News-Tribune. Hertzel grew up in Duluth, earned an MFA from Queens University in Charlotte, N.C., has written two books and is the former president of the National Book Critics Circle board.
About Ann Kjellberg: Ann Kjellberg is the Founding editor of Book Post, a bite-sized newsletter-based book review delivery service. She was on the editorial staff of the New York Review of Books from 1988 to 2017. In 2009 she founded the literary magazine Little Star and is the literary executor of the poet Joseph Brodsky.
