Liberation Library

Liberation Library provides books to youth in prison to encourage imagination, self-determination and connection to outside worlds of their choosing. They are a volunteer run and led abolitionist organization that sends books to young people in Illinois prisons and jails. At the core of the Liberation Library mission is the belief that access to books is a right, not a privilege. Twice monthly, Liberation Library sends out orders based on the requests of individual readers. Once the books are selected, volunteers write personalized notes to each reader, and the books that the young people receive are theirs to keep. Their model provides readers with choice and ownership in a world where they are often devoid of both.
